~ Ramadhan 2008 ~

Few words related to Ramadhan month in Bisayan Vocab, this is not language tutorial but more on proving how nice the Bisayan language. Ha. ha..

SUNGKAI: refer to a people who did not fasting. eg: sungkai ikau ti (you are not fasting)

SUMUNGKAI: refer to an act of breaking the fast

NAKASUNGKAI: refer to situation when somebody did not finish their fasting.

MAPASUNGKAI: refer to an action of serving or organize a feast for breaking fast.

NABADUKAN: Confirmed !!! no other language in this world had a specific word for this. ha..ha. As far as i know, only Bisayan have this kind of vocab. pergh !!!
please ask your Bisayan elders for the exact meaning. ha..ha..ha..

It is nice to share here that, Bisayan Language had the influence of English and Arabic. Some word used in Bisayan Language come from English and Arabic. I am proud because the fact is, Bisayan Language is easily adapt others language to make it nice and good to hear. But sometime the word become more specific used, just like coldgate for all kind of tooth paste.

let's look some examples of it:

ENGLISH:

( PLIKISIN ) : Refer to the land application form or LA status.

( PLANCIN ) : Refer to a shoe polish, maybe the word shine become cin

( OKSUDA ) : Works Order - popular amongs the Bisayan contractor

( MAT GAT ) : mud guard

ARABIC

( MAIRAT ) : Isra' & Mi'raj Night.

( NISPU ) : The Night of fifhteen Sya'aban
